Week 3: Vuforia by Maya Pruitt

This was our first introduction to Vuforia, an AR plugin used in Unity. Our assignment was to find a scene in real life to augment, for example: a building awning or subway poster. We were tasked to augment two different locations and tie them together narratively.

Because I had a lot of trouble with Vuforia this week, I couldn’t realize my vision. Below are a storyboard and assets that I created:

I wanted to continue with the aesthetic of 2D animation, however I could not get Vuforia to play videos over an image target - some sort of compiling issue. I also tried to experiment with 3D animation in Unity and discovered that it wouldn't play existing animations, but I could create my own?

Week 2: Printed AR Narrative by Maya Pruitt

FISH FOOD: A story about the aftermath of the “catch of the day”.

For this assignment, our goal was to bring to life pages of printed material uses AR. We were to embed a series of 4 images across a newspaper or magazine to weave together a narrative. For this project, we used blippAR for the AR technology. I found a copy of a New Yorker with an illustrated cover that really struck me. The rest of the story evolved from deciding I wanted the fish to move and become my main character.

AR STUDIO Week 1: Recreate a memory by Maya Pruitt

A DAY AT THE RACES

For this assignment I recreated a day at the Wayne County Fair. Being a native New Yorker, this very rural event was always novel and exciting to me. My favorite part of the fair growing up was watching Rosaire's Royal Races, a tantalizing, extraordinary show where competitors run to the finish line. One year, my bet won the race - well done Christina Hoguilera, you really brought us home the bacon!

STORYBOARD:

ASSSIGNMENT: Our goal was to create a story from one project in Maya. We could only use found models (no 3D modeling allowed!), but we could use camera angles or move things around within the setting to capture our scenes. This was my first time using the software Maya.
